Kids Heart Felt Cooking is a "hands-on"
nutrition-oriented cooking program. Each participant is provided with cooking utensils that are specifically designed
for children's cooking classes. Our trained volunteers teach children the skills necessary to use their utensils
in a proper and safe way. Children also learn how to measure out ingredients and make their own foods. Cooking
utensils, measuring spoons and cups, and cutting boards are given to each child at the conclusion of the program to take home
(and hopefully to help parents in preparing healthy foods in their own kitchens!)
Children in our classes are taught how to prepare their
favorite foods in a healthy way. Children are also introduced to new foods and are "re-introduced"
to foods that they previously may not have liked, but are shown how to make these foods in a more flavorful, healthy
way.
Each week, the children are taught a nutrition lesson and then each child is given their own supplies so that
they each may prepare that week's healthy recipe themselves. The children then compete
in a food contest in which their food creations are judged for taste, presentation, and nutritional value. SEE
